What a day!

Around 3:30 we (Lauren - another intern, Gary - our preceptor, and I) were beginning to wrap things up at the hospital and call it a day... until we got news that an airplane had crashed in the Hudson River. We immediately got on the computer to watch reports and see what in the world was going on. On my way home I kept thinking about the whole situation, and how amazing it is that all 155 passengers survived what could have been a horrific accident... and after watching Fox News tonight and seeing how the whole incident took place, it is just hard to fathom. God definitely had his arms of protection around that plane and He was with that pilot every step of the way. All I can say is that it was not those passengers time to go - God definitely has bigger and better plans for them.
Also when hearing how the pilot handled the whole situation, it is just hard to believe. He had 29 years of experience (so now I want my pilot to be old and experienced when I take my next trip!) - he is a 'veteran' of flying planes, so this definitely helped him make such quick decisions on where to land and to make such a perfect landing in the freezing water! They also said that the pilot walked up and down the aisle of the plane twice to make sure all of the passengers were out before he exited the plane. What a selfless person. He will forever be a hero.
Finally, the Pres gave his fairwell speech. What a bittersweet moment. When he was recapping his 8 years of presidency, it reminded me of what all Bush has dealt with. I know people have mixed reviews on Bush and his decisions, but I think he is a good and godly man... and just so darn cute!
...So I know this is a 'serious' post but all of the events from today were really weighing on my heart. An average Thursday turned out to be an eventful day that many will not forget.
(and a side note: I think records were set on how cold it was today!!! brrrrr!)

Here is just one of the million links from the plane crash - or I guess it really was not a crash? Anyway, here it is:
