Spring is in the Air!

...and that means it is time to put your best fashion foot forward. Yep that's right. It is time for the first ever edition of What to Wear in '09. So after perusing around a few websites that were inspired from the recent looks of the New York Fashion Week, I compiled a little list of my own.

What to Wear in '09:
1. Bold Colors - Such as magenta, yellow, blue, and yes even neon.
2. Oversized Necklaces
3. Black/White Prints
4. Big Bangles
5. Sequins - Not reserved just for evening wear! Wear a cardigan embellished with sequins to spice things up.
6. Asymmetry - Including dresses and tops.
7. The Little WHITE Dress
8. Shear Fabrics - Of course with the appropriate tanks or undergarments underneath!
9. Hippie Chic/Bohemian
10. Patterns - Bold, geometrical, ethnic/tribal

Half-Marathon

For our one year anniversary (May 10th), Leigh and I have decided to train for and run a half marathon. A half marathon is 13.1 miles and they are done all over the country. The first thing we are having to do is update our foot wear. Leigh last had a new pair of running shoes last year and I have had the same pair of tennis shoes for probably 3 or 4 years now.

Next we needed to develop some type of training program. After googling for a while, I found a website, www.halhigdon.com, that has all type of information on training and running marathons and half marathons. So I took his 12 week novice half marathon training program and customized it for Leigh and I. I had to customize it because the half marathon we have chosen was a little more than 12 weeks away. The program incorporates progressive running distances, stretch training, strength training, and the choice to incorporate other aerobic exercises such as swimming, biking, walking, or jogging. It also encourages to run smaller races such as a 5k or a 10k to help you prepare for the real thing. In our program, we will be running a 5k in Mountain Brook, a 5k in Montgomery, and a 10k in Montgomery to prepare for the half marathon.

As I mentioned earlier, we had to choose the half marathon we wanted to run and this was our next step after getting a training program. We are going to compete in the June 7 half marathon in Washington Park in Chicago. This marathon is apart of an inaugural set of half marathons that will have the races in Miami, Atlanta, Fort Lauderale, and Chicago in 2009. Visit this website, http://www.131marathon.com/, to learn more about the races and specifically the Chicago one.

So, wish us luck as we start our training this Monday and hopefully we will make it through alive. We were at the gym on Monday and I was pretty winded after only running one mile. Looks like it going to be tough but I think we can do it.

Nine Months

Ha! Nope, its not what you think... we are not expecting a little Matthew. Nine months refers to the time we have been married - where has the time gone? I guess as the saying goes 'Time flies when you're having fun!' I also think that time flies when you are anxiously awaiting May 5 to hurry up and get here so I can graduate and we can move on to bigger and better things! :)

What a wonderful nine months it has been! I am the luckiest girl in the world!

Just Perfect

The weather lately has been amazing! If I could have 365 days like the past 4 days have been I would be the happiest girl in the world. It is the kind of weather that you can do anything in - and not freeze or burn up - it is just, well, PERFECT! Pretty weather puts me in such a good mood, and I am actually more productive. So now I am praying for the rest of 2009 to have 70ish degree weather with a light breeze here and there.
Inevitably, when we see a good forecast coming , the boys and I always plan for a day at our new favorite place: the Shakespeare Festival. We have actually found our 'secret' spot that we go to every time... it's funny because this big ole grassy area that we found is always empty and there is one parking spot that is always waiting with our name on it. We (especially Turner) love it! We went both Saturday and Sunday this time. We just couldn't resist. We walked Turner along the running paths (we passed people flying these motorized planes, cute little families with strollers, dogs of all sizes, etc.), then I found a nice spot on my big beach towel while Matthew hit tennis balls with his golf club to Turner. So now I offically have Spring Fever - too bad the groundhog saw his shadow!

Turner and Matthew playing a little golf. (Notice Turner's intensity... he is ready to rumble!)

Water Break!

Post-golf: The picture says it all. He napped the rest of the day.

What a day!

Around 3:30 we (Lauren - another intern, Gary - our preceptor, and I) were beginning to wrap things up at the hospital and call it a day... until we got news that an airplane had crashed in the Hudson River. We immediately got on the computer to watch reports and see what in the world was going on. On my way home I kept thinking about the whole situation, and how amazing it is that all 155 passengers survived what could have been a horrific accident... and after watching Fox News tonight and seeing how the whole incident took place, it is just hard to fathom. God definitely had his arms of protection around that plane and He was with that pilot every step of the way. All I can say is that it was not those passengers time to go - God definitely has bigger and better plans for them.
Also when hearing how the pilot handled the whole situation, it is just hard to believe. He had 29 years of experience (so now I want my pilot to be old and experienced when I take my next trip!) - he is a 'veteran' of flying planes, so this definitely helped him make such quick decisions on where to land and to make such a perfect landing in the freezing water! They also said that the pilot walked up and down the aisle of the plane twice to make sure all of the passengers were out before he exited the plane. What a selfless person. He will forever be a hero.
Finally, the Pres gave his fairwell speech. What a bittersweet moment. When he was recapping his 8 years of presidency, it reminded me of what all Bush has dealt with. I know people have mixed reviews on Bush and his decisions, but I think he is a good and godly man... and just so darn cute!
...So I know this is a 'serious' post but all of the events from today were really weighing on my heart. An average Thursday turned out to be an eventful day that many will not forget.
(and a side note: I think records were set on how cold it was today!!! brrrrr!)

Here is just one of the million links from the plane crash - or I guess it really was not a crash? Anyway, here it is:

A Glipse of 2008

What a year 2008 was! It is so fun to think of all the big events that took place in one year. Sometimes I want to go back and do the year all over again to relive some of the fun, memorable times I had... but then again I am happy to be where I am and glad to move forward into the new year... to make new memories!
Here are a few of the best moments of 2008.

Welcome Baby Wilson (my nephew and the newest addition to the Cherry Family):

Of course the WHOLE family was there:

Here we go...

Well I have recently discovered the world of blogging. I love reading helpful tips, looking at pictures, and just being able to see everyone's thoughts on various topics. So Matthew suggested that I jump on the band wagon - but I thought that as much as I enjoy my life, there are probably not that many exciting events and updates to write about... haha so we decided to start one anyway! Enjoy!

By the way, I am not very technically inclined (Matthew says I break every electronic device that I touch) - so I apologize that my page is not very cute with designs/patterns/pictures. I really just cannot figure it out! Any tips?
